Link2Space consists of components of an antenna system, an SDR receiver, a laptop, software for receiving and processing data.
Students independently assemble a kit and get a station (complex) for receiving satellite information, configure it and receive data from flying meteorological satellites such as the Meteor-M No. 2, NOAA, MetOp via L-band radio channels in real time. Then the received images of the Earth from space are processed and analysed.
Goals achieved when using the kit in the educational process:
Creating a lively interest of students in scientific and technological activities;
Attracting young people to the space industry in terms of remote sensing of the Earth;
Formation of children's interest in solving adult problems related to ecology and meteorology;
Teaching children to work in a team, the ability to defend their interests and achieve their goals;
Teaching children to work with new materials and equipment, work with electronics and learn the basics of programming.
As a result of the work, the task is solved on its own to assemble and configure an engineering kit, get a workable satellite image reception station, take an image from weather satellites to an antenna assembled on its own.
Developed with the grant support of the Innovation Promotion Fund.
Engineering trainings based on Link2Space engineering constructor can be held for students during vacations or special project sessions.
Recommended age: 14+
Duration:
Base Link2Space training: ~5 days (4-5 hours every day)
Advanced Link2Space training: ~10 days (4-5 hours every day)
Training content: introduction to the Earth observation from space; theoretical block; practice – satellite schedule calculation, receiving data from meteorological satellite in real time mode (outside), data visualisation and thematic analysis; set of special developing tasks to fix the material.
Optimal group size: 4-5 participants (per 1 Link2Space).
Staff: 1 tutor + 1 co-tutor (assistant/translator) for each group.
Necessary equipment: Link2Space (1-4 units); laptop (1-4 units); big screen.
Test site requirements: outside, open space, safe flat surface, up to 25 meters from the electrical connection point, minimum doorway width = 120 cm
